We love talking about all the benefits to singing — and we post about them all the time! One you probably haven’t heard about yet is how singing to your baby can help with their cognitive development. Does that surprise you!? Not us! We’ve known how beneficial singing can be to anyone at ANY age!
A recent study presented at the 25th annual meeting of the Cognitive Neuroscience Society found that lullabies do more than just comfort both mama and baby, they can also benefit an infant’s cognitive development! It was found that these songs can increase a little one’s attention and displays of positive emotion toward their mamas.
They further found relationships between rhythm and language abilities, attention, development, hearing acuity, and even social interactions! It’s not surprising though when previous research had found that singing can have a huge impact on how babies interact with their parents and the world. So, keep singing mamas! Here are some favourites of ours and we could work on some more together in a class in person in Calgary or online (worldwide!)! Remember, singing lessons are for everyone!
Lullabies To Sing To Your Baby:
- Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
- You Are My Sunshine
- Hush Little Baby
- Row, Row, Row Your Boat
Singing is a powerful tool of motherhood, and now mamas have the research to prove that it has long-lasting benefits on their development. So keep carrying that tune, mama, even if you’re off-key, because your baby’s listening and they love every moment of it. If you’re a mama, book a singing lesson to work on some lullabies! 😉
